DESCRIPTION:UNDERGROUND\n\n\nKAT LALOR\n\n\nA4 SOUNDS GALLERY\n\n\n\nUNDERG
ROUND is a recognition and celebration of existence beneath the surface.\n
Informed by Irish Vampiric Mythologies\, this exhibition entangles undergr
ound\ncultures\, Queer infrastructures\, and the quiet\, regenerating pres
ence of the\nvampire. \n\nPaying homage to Drag as a resilient political p
ower\, the exhibition features a\nperformative film set within soil\; the
living\, renewing\, connective tissue\,\nhumanised and tenderised by proce
sses of decay.  The film is visually led by a\nviscous green liquid\, the
source of infection\, regeneration\, and preservation\namongst an ecosyste
m of underground vampires. As this liquid travels\, it bathes\nand permeat
es the soil\, flowing around\, through\, and between various vampiric\nbod
ies\, each in a varying state of preservation\, transformation\, or euphor
	ia.\nHolding reference to silent film\, the work slowly renews\, grows\, a
nd mutates\ntemporally into an ode to Queer Club and Ballroom scenes\, the
deep and\nunyielding roots of community\, activism\, and political resist
ance\, collapsing\nQueer time into a pulsing pool of immortality. \n\n\n\n
	\nKAT LALOR\n\nKat Lalor is a Queer visual artist\, generating a practice
of worldbuilding\nthrough moving-image\, performance and writing. They inv
oke their practice to\ninterrogate constructed binary categories which lim
it the possibilities of Queer\nintelligibility.\n\nAs someone existing bet
ween the gender binary\, Kat’s practice acts as an\nexplorative space for
	self-experimentation\, perspective-switching\, and\nspeculative narrative
building. They enact this by adapting Drag as a core\nmethodology. Inspire
d by the writing of Renate Lorenz\, Drag becomes a historical\nand politic
al tool for symbiotic knowledge-making and knowledge-dismantling.\nWith th
e performing body as the active site\, Drag enables purposeful embodiments
\nwhich can collapse the boundaries of truth/fiction\, subjective/collecti
ve\, and\nself/other.\n\nEnthralled by the writings of Queer academics who
seek to dismantle\nsocio-political constructs of gender\, time and space\
, Kat combines the\ntheoretical and the personal through pre-existing spec
ulative fictions. This\ncreates a point of recognisable access\, and empha
sises the acts of subversion\,\ndestabilisation\, and reclamation at play.
Utilising absurd\, camp and DIY\naesthetics\, normative knowledge is dest
abilised and binary barriers can be\nbroken. Through this\, they create a
space to question the validity of all\nnormative and political ‘truths’\,
including those used to deny marginalised\ngroups bodily autonomy and self
	-determination. Combined\, these tools allow for\ncritical reflections\, r
e-imaginings\, and reclaimings of Queer experience.\n\nKat completed their
BA in Fine Art in 2022 and an MA in Fine Art in 2024. Their\nwork has bee

he project features both established and emerging performance artists and
organisations based in Ireland and Northern Ireland.</p><p>The films refle
ct on the significance of performance art, honouring its emphasis on prese
nce, simple yet impactful actions, and body language, while also capturing
the process of creating objects and the use of everyday, simple, or found
materials. These works explore themes of overcoming both collective and p
ersonal trauma, while fostering direct connections between performers and
audiences in public spaces.</p><p>The collaborations within Bodyverses exp
lore the evolving relationship between performance and medium, where film
is not merely a means of documentation, but a vital component of the perfo
rmances themselves. At the core of Bodyverses lies a commitment to persona
l connection and encounters developed over extended periods of time.</p><p
	><strong>Juana Robles</strong> (b. 1983, Tortosa, Spain) is a Kilkenny-bas
ed artist-filmmaker. Her work, often created with analog techniques like 1
6mm and Super 8, explores the body, identity, memory, and resilience throu
gh immersive, tactile cinema. Drawing from performance and ritual, she blu
	rs personal and collective histories.</p>
