Irish Dancing Classes
Trad music is dance music! This is a set of four classes that'll leave you with enough steps and knowledge to have a little dance at your local pub, and get your friends up to do the same. It'll also prep you to go to a set dancing céilí and not freak out :) We'll learn some solo steps from different Irish dance traditions, two-hand dances like the Stack of Barley (very old) and Arranmore Half-Decker (very new!), a bit about Irish dance history, and how to respectfully contribute to the session.
We'll be dancing to live tunes by very talented musicians. You can wear shoes with leather soles, or just whatever shoes you normally wear out.
My name is August Kirwin and I'll be your teacher. I've been Irish dancing since I was a small child in Canada, and training, performing, and teaching across the island since 2023. You can look at some of what I do on instagram (soz) @august.kirwin
If you can, commit to all four classes! Each will build on the last.
