DESCRIPTION:THE SEA AS A WITNESS: AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL MEMORY \n\nA three-part
film programme curated by  Cindy Chehab \n\nEmergency fundraiser in aid o
f displaced families in Beirut\n\n\nABOUT\n\n‘The Mediterranean is wilder
	than we think\, it’s geological\, it’s planetary.’\n\n-Etel Adnan\n\nThe S
ea as a Witness: An Archaeological Memory is a curated film programme by\n
Cindy Chehab that explores the sea as a site of memory\, displacement\, ec
ological\ncrisis\, and violent histories. Drawing from cinema across the M
editerranean\, the\nprogramme positions the sea as both archive and witnes
	s\, where sound\, image\, and\nmotion carry stories that resist erasure. \
n\nIn a moment marked by aggression and ethnic cleansing by the Israeli Go
vernment \nin Lebanon\, Palestine\, and Iran\, this programme responds wit
h urgency and\npolitical clarity. Across these regions\, the sea has been
militarized\, to waters\nthat have borne the weight of forced migration\,
fatalities\, and ecological harm.\nThe violence enacted upon bodies\, huma
n and nonhuman\, along these shores and\nacross maritime borders underscor
	es a form of slow\, systemic erasure that cinema\ncan confront\, contest\,
and document. The films gathered here insist that the sea\nmust be unders
tood as witness and as an active site of political meaning\, where\nhistor
ies of violence are confronted.\n\nThe programme’s presentation in Dublin\
, a coastal city in Ireland\, adds an\nurgent layer of reflection. Surroun
ded by the sea\, Dublin’s geographical and\nhistorical positionality evoke
	s questions of mobility\, borders\, exile\, and the\nenvironmental and pol
itical forces that shape islands and coasts.\n\nWe come together to think
collectively about the ties between the Mediterranean\nand the North Atlan
tic\, and reflect about our own closeness to the sea\, our\nposition\, as
witness and participant. We invite the audience to imagine how\nmemory\, c
are\, and solidarity can flow across waters and oceanic borders.\n\n\n\nPA
RT ONE\n\nThis haunting memory that is not my own (2021)\nPanos Aprahamian
	 | Lebanon\, Armenia\, 30’\n\nThrough semi-fictional storytelling\, This H
aunting Memory That Is Not My Own\nreflects on the links between economic
growth\, environmental degradation\, and\nsocial injustice. Focusing on Be
irut’s shoreline\, its port\, and the Karantina\ndistrict\, the film revea
ls landscapes marked by extraction and violence\, places\nwhere both waste
and lives have long been discarded.\n\nSummer 91 (2014)\nNadim Tabet & Ka
	rine Wehbé | Lebanon\, 20’’\n\nAt a beach resort on the Lebanese coast\, a
young woman and a young man tell\ntheir shared story in different ways. T
hrough their conflicting memories\, the\nfilm explores youth\, relationshi
ps\, and the fragile nature of recollection\, set\nagainst the lingering t
	ensions of wartime Lebanon.\n\nErrands (2020)\nMira Adoumier | Iceland\, L
