DESCRIPTION:Join us in conversation with Mariam Elnozahy\, who is here with
us as part of the\nFSAS International Curator Residency programme!\n\n15
	July\, 5pm – 6pm.\n\n“During this talk\, I will present three key projects
from the past ten years of\nmy practice\, each examining how state-scale
historical narratives are\nmetabolized and revised on an individual level.
In my practice\, I often take a\nhistoriographical approach to building t
hematic frameworks and prioritize\ncollective\, collaborative work with ar
tists at various stages of\nconceptualization and production. This collect
ive process generates the\ndiscursive conditions for unsettling\, then rec
asting\, dominant narratives. The\nthree selected projects I’ve chosen to
discuss take different forms: a writing\nworkshop in Cairo\, a group exhib
ition between Uppsala and Oslo\, and an\narchitectural restaging in Stockh
olm. Separated by geography and time\, they are\nlinked by a persistent qu
estion: how do artists respond when political horizons\ncollapse?”\n\nThe
talk is free and no booking is required. \n\nBio:\n\nMariam Elnozahy is a
curator\, researcher\, and writer. She currently serves as\nthe Artistic D
irector of Konsthall C in Stockholm\, Sweden where her program\n“Sacred Sp
aces” invites artists to address questions of religion and society.\nPrevi
ously\, she ran exhibitions and programs at the Townhouse Gallery for\nCon
temporary Art in Cairo (2016-2020). She has also curated exhibitions in\nC
	openhagen\, Oslo\, Uppsala\, Amsterdam\, Jeddah\, Basel\, and London\, exp
	loring\nhistories of globalization\, development\, and resource extraction
. Her project\ntitled “Whose Open Society? Understanding Neoliberalism and
the Economics of\nArtistic Production in the Middle East and former Easte
rn bloc” was presented at\nthe Kunsthalle Wien\, the Warsaw Biennale\, and
the Matter of Art Biennale in\nPrague. Her writing has been published in
Frieze Magazine\, The Markaz Review\,\nHyperallergic\, and MadaMasr. She w
as in residency at the Jan Van Eyck Academie\nin Maastricht\, NL from 2022
-2023 investigating the archive of Royal Dutch Shell\nto understand the re
lationship between arts and extractive industries in the\ntwentieth centur
	y. She holds a masters degree from the Aga Khan Program for\nIslamic Archi
	tecture at MIT.
