DESCRIPTION:Waste Not\, Want Not: An Incomplete Manual for Artists\, Techni
cians and Workshops\nis a living resource that documents the often-unseen
adaptations\, hacks and\ninclusive practices that shape how workshops func
tion\, offering insight into\nmore accessible\, sustainable and supportive
ways of working.\n\nThe publication grows directly from Harriet Morley’s
experience of working\nwithin technical workshops — spaces understood not
only as sites of production\,\nbut as environments of learning and exchang
	e. Developed as part of Harriet’s\nTechnical Fellowship at the Rijksakadem
ie\, the research brings together case\nstudies\, interviews and examples
from artist residencies across Northern Europe\nand the UK\, and is design
ed as an evolving resource for artists\, technicians and\norganisations.\n
\nThroughout the research\, sustainability is approached from two interdep
	endent\nperspectives: ecological — addressing materials\, energy use and e
	nvironmental\nimpact — and holistic\, which considers accessibility\, soci
al ecology and the\nways people inhabit shared spaces. These dimensions co
ntinually shape one\nanother\; decisions about materials influence how peo
ple work\, while workshop\nlayouts\, tools and cultures affect safety\, in
clusion and energy use.\n\nIn this talk\, Harriet will speak through the d
evelopment of Waste Not\, Want Not\,\nreflecting on her research at the Ri
jksakademie and how it connects to her wider\nartistic practice. She will
discuss how observing small but meaningful\nadjustments raised questions a
round knowledge-sharing\, institutional\nresponsibility and collective act
ion\, and how foregrounding these often-unseen\npractices can support more
	 equitable\, resilient and sustainable workshop\nenvironments.
